Do I need council approval to demolish a house in Newcastle?

Usually, yes. Demolition is normally approved through a development application with your local council, such as Newcastle City Council, or a complying development certificate from a private certifier. Parts of The Hill, Cooks Hill and Newcastle East sit within heritage conservation areas, where consent is more likely to be required.
